High humidity can keep leaf blades wet overnight, summer storms add more moisture, and warm temperatures speed up fungal activity.

The fungus itself may already be present in the soil or thatch. That does not mean every lawn will get sick. Healthy, actively growing turf can often tolerate low disease pressure. They return nutrients to the soil without creating the thick layer of thatch many homeowners worry about.

Use Fertilizer Carefully During Disease-Prone Weather

A properly fertilized lawn is better equipped to develop roots, fill thin areas, and recover from seasonal stress. But more fertilizer is not always better. Overfertilizing, particularly with high nitrogen applications at the wrong time, can create fast, tender growth that is more attractive to certain diseases.
